Secure Your Finances By Securing Your Health

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Money is on the minds of many Americans these days, and with that comes concerns about how and where to cut back expenses and live a more frugal lifestyle. Doing this, for some means giving up those extras like big vacations, meals at fancy restaurants, and extravagant shopping sprees, while for others it means cutting back on the groceries that they are buying or perhaps cutting back the amount of their insurance premiums each month.

There is a different mentality between wealthier people and those with less money. Wealthier people believe in insurance as a key to their financial security even in times of financial crisis, however the more impoverished see insurance as a luxury; a monthly expense that when compared to food, clothing and shelter, is just flat out unnecessary. This misconception can be very costly.

Insurance should not be considered and extra, instead it should be looked at as an important part of keeping themselves and there family’s safe. Without insurance you may be leaving a bigger hole in your families financial security should a medical situation arise.

Often times, the American who feel they do not need insurance are the ones who have close to nothing. they do not realize that it is the insurance that will save them from further expenses in the end. In cases of illness, death or home disaster their insurance plan will pick up the bills and leave you safe and secure.

To sum up, insurance coverage, such as life, health, car and homeowners policies, are there to protect all that you have accumulated including you family. Please do not over look the importance of this monthly expense. It is better to eat noodles ever night then to not be insured.

Student Health Insurance

Allowing for further tax credits and being more open to the idea of personal health savings accounts so students can save in order to provide their own health insurance may be the answer for any student who is not sure how they are going to get the proper health care as they are away at school. Tax credits for employees that reach up to five thousand dollars a year have been proposed. It is hard to tell whether such a proposal would get any where and what exactly the impact of such a plan would be for students. The HCTC is already out there on the table and that is something that helps many parents be able to provide quality health care to their student children as they are off getting their education. The truth is that many larger universities already have a student health insurance plan and use that as part of the calculation to come up with your entire health insurance costs.

A misconception out there is that many of the clinicians who work at a university clinic are either rookies in the health care profession or otherwise don’t know what they are talking about. The truth is that many of these physicians are qualified and have seen all kinds of situations that prepare them and give them the necessary experience to provide the best possible health care they can while on campus.

Some students prefer the private sector to the universities clinics. If this is the case there are insurance companies that will provide you with coverage, if you meet their criteria; you must be self employed, have a solid work history and be in fairly good health. The problem with this is that most self employed individuals find it hard to set time aside to research the proper health coverage.

When you add the school work load on top of a self employed individuals responsibilities, this is an even greater issue. Many students are so over worded that they do not get proper sleep and continue to put off a doctors visit. This can be dangerous if a true medical issue is involved and not caught in time.

The health care industry is working to make the process of finding health care less time consumes and more accessible for all students who work, not just ones that are self employed.
